Who was his wife? – Vayyiggash

Jacob says, “My wife bore me two sons” (Gen. 44:27).

We know, however, that Jacob actually had two wives, Leah and Rachel. Which wife is he speaking of in this verse?

The passage could be read as applying to Leah, and yet it seems obvious that he was speaking of Rachel.

Nachmanides says that he had no intention to disparage either wife but from the way in which he spoke of his two sons and says that one had left him, it seems clear that he regarded Rachel as holding higher rank in his affections and considering her to be his real wife since she was the one whom he chose with a fulness of love and emotion.
