Dreams: A microscope to the soul – Mikketz

A major subject of events in the sidra this week (and other weeks at this time of year) is dreams. We ask ourselves why this was the ancient means of communication.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe tells us in one of his dissertations that it is because the subject of the messages was spiritual, the method of communication had to fit into the context. Hence because the Torah is dealing with a person’s spiritual rank and heritage it was appropriate to use spiritual and psychological means of communication.

It should also be pointed out that Erich Fromm says, “Dreams are like a microscope through which we look at the hidden recesses in our soul”.
