    Real men – Sh’lach L’cha

The portion begins, Sh’lach l’cha anashim – “send for yourself men” (Num. 12:2).

People say that for some jobs you need a real man. Big, strong men? Muscled, macho men?

That is one approach, but not the Torah definition. The way the Torah looks at it is found at the beginning of D’varim: “men of wisdom, understanding and knowledge” (Deut. 1:13).

What real men have is upright character, moral courage, firm conviction. Their brain matters more than their brawn.
